Why not to piss off your IT Admin.
So my boss starts demanding that I work some serious OT (I'm already pulling five tens here, bub, how many more hours do you think I can give a day?) and I try to politely tell him that it's not feasable. I have to fit sleeping, eating, and daily errands in there somewhere, not to mention spending some time with my family might be nice.
He keeps hounding me until I tell him, flat-out, that if he doesn't stop, I'll file a hostile working envoronment / harrassment suit against him. I promptly make that very same complaint to HR, in writing, and request a week's paid leave to deal with the "emotional repurcussions" (aka, I need time to cool off so I don't choke the $h!t out of him). Leave denied. Why? Because it must be approved by my manager. Yes, the same one I've just filed a complaint against and was needing the break from.
Ok, fine, I can hang with this - I'll just go spend an extra hour on the kicking bag at the dojo to work out the stress in a less destructive way.
Boss comes back the next day as I'm stepping up to my desk (I'm not even on the clock yet, mind you) and says I'll have to stay late tonight because they need a batch of new servers installed & I'm the only one who's available to get them config'd properly.
I remind him of that complaint I had filed against him, and tell him that unless he wants me to file ANOTHER one, he needs to back the %$#@ off and ASK if I'm WILLING to work the OT to get the project done, otherwise handing me ultimatums is a great way to get hurt.
He promptly files a complaint against me saying I'd threatened him with bodily injury. So I walk into the HR's office, explain what happened (it's STILL not time for me to clock in yet, btw), and file complaint #2 against him. Only it's not, because they now can't find any record of complaint #1! WTF???!!!
I stomp off to my desk, pick up the phone, and call the Regional VP (we met at a conference he'd held the month before - he was impressed with my skills & work ethic, and offered me a job under him directly "if you ever want a change of scenery") to ask him if the offer was still open. It was, so I arranged to transferr to his office the next week. He asked me what had prompted me to finally accept his offer, and I tried to tell him that it wasn't really a good idea to talk about that at the moment. he said BS, so I told him. All of it. He was NOT happy.
As I hang up, my (now Ex) boss demands to know who I was speaking with. So I tell him: "My new boss." He gets SERIOUSLY pissed and starts screaming, ranting, raving, and litterally flinging slobber all over, stomping back and forth, pounding the desk, and calling me every name in the book. He finally caps it all off with "So what F'd up LOSER decided to hire your lazy @$$?"
OMG, the look on his face was so totally priceless when I smiled & calmly said "Your boss."
It was SO much fun calling him the next week from my new job and telling him that, due to a new company IT policy, he was no longer needed in an IT role, and was being transferred to the secretarial management pool. A couple of my underlings would be by his office shortly to collect his scomputer gear, as he wouldn't be needing them anymore.
BAH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAhaahahhahaa...
